What is Tourist tax?
The tourist tax in Italy is a puzzle, because every municipality has its own rate, its own exempt categories (minors, people with disabilities, medical stays) and its own caps, meaning the maximum number of taxable nights, which can be 3, 5 or 7. Keeping track of it all by hand in an Excel sheet is a recipe for mistakes and fines.
Doorling keeps an up-to-date database of rates by municipality, applies them automatically to every booking and prepares the period's report already in your municipality's format, with a pre-filled F24 and annual return where the municipality requires them. If the rate changes, the system updates without you even noticing.

How Tourist tax works
You set the municipality
Select the property's municipality and Doorling loads the rate, exemptions and cap.
The booking is calculated
For every adult guest who isn't exempt and is within the cap, the tax is calculated automatically.
The guest sees it at check-in
The amount appears in the guest portal and, if you've connected Stripe, it's collected online.
Reporting ready
Export the period's report as PDF or CSV, in the format your municipality asks for.
Frequently asked questions about Tourist tax
All answersAll Italy's main tourist municipalities are already set up, from Milan to Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Bologna, Turin, Verona, Genoa, Palermo and more. For smaller municipalities you can enter the rate yourself.
Exemption rules apply automatically based on the guest's age and nationality, collected at check-in. For special categories, such as disability or medical stays, you can mark the exemption manually.
We update the database centrally. New bookings use the new rate, while older ones keep the rate in force at the time of booking.
If you connect Stripe, guests pay it online during check-in, together with any extras they choose, otherwise you collect it yourself on arrival. Either way, Doorling keeps track of the amount due and the amount collected.
